Bishop returns after 30 years to see profs

Bishop Paul Ssemogerere of the Diocese of Kasana- Luwero, Uganda (center) visted the SHST campus today and met with two of his former St. Francis de Sales Seminary professors who taught him as a student there three decades ago.

The bishop was in the United States for rest, relaxation and to see old friends. Here he catches up with Fr. Tom Knoebel (left), who had the bishop, then 24, as a student at St. Francis in 1978, and with Fr. Jerome Hudziak, who advised then-seminarian Ssemogerere as the director of formation.

Fr. Hudziak is now a part-time formation director at Sacred Heart, and Fr. Knoebel is Sacred Heart’s vice rector. They recalled that Ssemogerere saw snow for the first time at St. Francis. Fr. Hudziak has kept in touch with Bishop Ssemogerere over the years, and will be visiting Uganda later this year.
