Seminarians' papers to be presented at SBL conference

SHST seminarians Dcn. David Orsak and Dcn. Justin Lopina have had their exegetical papers, written as part of their Master of Divinity Program, accepted for presentation at the Midwest Regional Meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature (SBL).  Orsak’s paper is entitled “The Faith of the Centurion in Matt 8:5-13.” Lopina’s work is entitled “The Double Ending of the Gospel of John.”

Fr. Toan Do, Ph.D., assistant professor of Scripture studies, was their advisor for the papers.

The meeting is this Feb. 8 and 9 at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Ill. The SBL is the largest and most prestigious academic society for biblical scholarship in the world.

Both Orsak, from the Diocese of Memphis, and Lopina, from the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, are expected to graduate this spring, and be ordained to the priesthood for parish ministry in their respective dioceses shortly thereafter.
