Sacred Heart priest economist brings Dehon's message to 2014

Fr. Quang Nguyen, SCJ, was the presenter for Sacred Heart School of Theology’s annual Dehon Lecture on March 26. The title of his presentation was, “Fr. Dehon’s Ministry from an Economic Perspective.”

He spoke of the historical context of Fr. Dehon's early work in social justice during the Industrial Revolution in France, and reflected on how the experiences of his order's founder were relevant for discussions about economic injustice today.

The presentation was delivered to the entire seminary community - all seminarians, other students, faculty and staff. Many members of the U.S. Provice of the Priests of the Sacred Heart also attended.

The afternoon session consisted of a panel discussion with Fr. Nguyen; the seminary's vice president for Finance, Sally Smits; and two seminarians who were former business managers, George Holley and Jack Sidler.

Fr. Nguyen received his Ph.D. in economics and political science from Claremont Graduate University in California last year. He professed his first vows with the Priests of the Sacred Heart in 1995.

An extensive article about Fr. Nguyen's presentation is available on the Priests of the Sacred Heart website.
