Three faculty celebrate retirements

Fr. Birdsall served on Sacred Heart's faculty for 20 years. He is known for the rigor of his courses, while admired by a generation of grateful students. In addition to teaching an array of pastoral counseling courses, he has played a key role in two re-accreditation processes, and has been a moving force behind improvements in seminary assessment duties through the Committee on Assessment of Program Effectiveness (CAPE). He also drove of various instruments that have improved the teaching and learning at SHST.

Fr. Michalski has a combined 24 years of teaching at St. Francis de Sales Seminary and at Sacred Heart School of Theology. He came to Sacred Heart when the academic formation portion of the St. Francis program moved to Sacred Heart. He has taught systematic theology as well as pre-theology courses. He also served as acting dean both at St. Francis and Sacred Heart. Fr. Michalski was instrumental in many improvements to Sacred Heart's programs, including developing new array of philosophy courses required by the 5 th edition of the Program of Priestly Formation.

Fr. Birdsall and Fr. Michalski have been granted emeritus status by Sacred Heart's faculty council.

Ms. Scherrer has served as study skills center coordinator at Sacred Heart since 1997 and has assisted hundreds of students since then with studies skills and editing of papers. She has also served as a tutor to students studying English as a second language at the seminary.
